Syntaxis conducts grammar training at client locations in New York City and throughout North America. |
Grammar has a bad reputation. It is often regarded as dull, dry, mysterious, and frustrating. We disagree with that perspective! In fact, we believe that gaining a deeper understanding of language and its structure is an exciting and rewarding activity. It is also a valuable one, with many practical professional benefits. For example, by improving their grasp of grammar, professionals can spend more time focusing on larger business writing issues such as content, organization, and style. Their writing as well as speech will be clearer, more precise, more professional, and more authoritative.
Grammar training options include (1) half-day and full-day on-site grammar workshops, (2) shorter Lunch & Learn grammar seminars, and (3) occasional public workshops open to individual registrants.
On-Site Workshops: Grammar Training for Groups
Syntaxis grammar workshops provide guidance to business professionals on grammatical issues that arise regularly in the workplace. The training format encourages discussion and questions, and exercises reinforce the grammatical principles covered in the class. Each workshop participant receives a copy of the book A Grammar Guide for Business Professionals from Syntaxis Press.
Intensive Grammar Workshop
One-day workshop. This comprehensive grammar course provides instruction in sentence structure, punctuation, and common errors in grammar and usage. Class participants become more confident writers as they gain a better understanding of the building blocks of language.
Business Writing & Grammar Workshop: Combination Course
One-day workshop. This workshop combines business writing instruction and grammar training in a single course. For a description of this workshop, please see the Business Writing Training section of our website.
25 Grammatical Problems and How to Overcome Them
Half-day workshop. This fast-paced grammar class covers 25 grammatical issues that arise frequently in business communications. These include topics such as the nature of the comma splice, the distinction between who and whom, and the confusion that can be the consequence of misplaced and dangling modifiers.
The Perils of Punctuation
Half-day workshop. Where one puts a comma or apostrophe affects meaning, sometimes dramatically. Errors in commas, colons, and their grammatical cousins can also distract the reader from the writer's message. This specialized grammar course covers the fundamental rules of punctuation and mechanics, as well as common errors in their application.
Lunch & Learn Seminars: Grammar Training for Groups
60- or 90-minute training sessions. Our Lunch & Learn seminars are shorter than the grammar courses described above and can accommodate more participants. Nonetheless, the training style remains lively and interactive, with plenty of audience participation. Seminars include "Polish Your Punctuation!" and "Some Top Grammatical Problems — and How to Overcome Them." For a complete listing of our luncheon training sessions in all subject areas, please visit the Lunch & Learn Seminars section of our website.
Public Workshops: Grammar Training Open to Individuals
Syntaxis conducts occasional public workshops open to individual registrants. Most public classes are sessions of our one-day combination course, "Business Writing & Grammar Workshop," which includes a two-hour segment on grammar as well as four hours of training in business writing and e-mail etiquette. For a calendar of upcoming classes, please visit our Public Workshops page.
