Presentation Skills Book

New from Syntaxis Press!

Compact, easy-to-use reference books ideal for busy professionals

How words are spoken can be as important as the words themselves. Effective speakers engage listeners not only with compelling content, but also with a delivery style that commands attention.

In our presentation skills training sessions, business professionals learn to present more powerfully in any context, from a meeting with colleagues to a sales pitch or keynote address. We offer a number of training options: (1) one-on-one presentation skills training for executives, (2) on-site presentation skills workshops, including standard courses as well as customized workshops designed to meet specific client needs, and (3) various Lunch & Learn presentation skills seminars.

One-on-One Presentation Skills Training for Executives

Varied training session lengths. One-on-one presentation skills training is a powerful and efficient option for senior executives seeking to improve the effectiveness and professionalism of their presentation style. The client can work generally on his or her skills or, alternatively, refine and improve a particular upcoming presentation. Training sessions are structured around the unique needs of the individual executive and can address any aspect of a presentation, from content and slides to delivery and Q&A preparation. Videotaping is typically an integral part of our executive training sessions.

On-Site Workshops: Presentation Skills Training for Groups

Managing Presentation Anxiety

Participants in our presentation skills workshops learn by doing. They speak repeatedly in front of the group, offer one another constructive criticism, and watch themselves on videotape. Seeing themselves through the objective lens of the camera helps workshop participants understand how they are seen by others. Small class size ensures an interactive and collegial training atmosphere. Each workshop participant receives a copy of the book Presentation Skills for Business Professionals from Syntaxis Press.

Basic Presentation Skills Workshop

Half-day or one-day workshops. Our basic presentation skills workshop focuses on the fundamentals of preparing and delivering an effective presentation. Training topics include body language, eye contact, vocal projection, content, nervousness, and confidence. Through interactive exercises, participants learn strategies for delivering a strong, clear message, whether to a single listener or an audience of hundreds.

Advanced Presentation Skills Workshop

Half-day, one-day, or multiple-day workshops. Our advanced presentation skills class is designed for those who have considerable experience giving presentations or who have taken our basic presentation skills workshop. Participants bring materials from their own past or upcoming presentations and draw on them for in-class exercises, furthering the connection between the workshop and the workplace. In addition to reviewing delivery fundamentals, the course covers how to incorporate visual aids, respond to questions, and maintain control of a presentation.

Comprehensive Presentation Skills Workshop

Multiple-day workshop. Our comprehensive presentation skills workshop provides participants with a broad spectrum of training, from the fundamentals through more advanced topics. The course begins with a full day of basic presentation skills training, which is followed by one or more advanced training sessions over the ensuing weeks.

Customized Presentation Skills Workshop

Varied workshop lengths. Syntaxis regularly creates customized presentation skills workshops to meet the specific training needs of our clients. For example, we can help your team refine an important client pitch or investor presentation, run a role-playing session that re-creates challenging client scenarios, prepare your employees for difficult questions that might arise during Q&A sessions, or design any other type of workshop to address your presentation skills training needs.

On-Site Workshops: Related Training for Groups

In addition to the presentation skills courses described above, we offer related communication skills training in (1) presentation writing and development and (2) telephone skills.

Presentation Writing and Development Workshop

Half-day workshop. This workshop offers instruction in how to create clear, compelling presentation content as well as effective visual aids. Throughout the workshop, participants project slides (if relevant) and analyze content from their own past or upcoming presentations. Each workshop participant receives a copy of the book Presentation Skills for Business Professionals from Syntaxis Press.

Telephone Skills Workshop

Half-day workshop. Most people speak on the telephone every day as part of their jobs, but they don't often find time to consider whether they are using this technological tool as effectively as they might. Our telephone skills workshop covers an array of communication and etiquette issues, including speaking volume, pace, voicemail greetings and messages, conference call protocol, and more. Each workshop participant receives a copy of the book Presentation Skills for Business Professionals, which includes a section on telephone communications, from Syntaxis Press.

Presentation Skills Training: Lunch & Learn Seminars

60- or 90-minute training sessions. Our Lunch & Learn seminars are shorter than the presentation skills workshops described above and can accommodate more participants. Nonetheless, the training style remains lively and interactive, with plenty of audience participation. Seminars include "Top Mistakes Presenters Make — and How to Avoid Them," "PowerPoint Addiction: Can It Be Treated?" and "Tips for Telephone Professionalism." For a complete listing of our luncheon training sessions in all subject areas, please visit the Lunch & Learn Seminars section of our website.
