Section 7.10

Read Receipts

A read receipt, which notifies the sender when his or her message has been opened or read, is another frequently abused technological tool. Use these receipts only if absolutely necessary. Many readers find them intrusive, though they will be much more receptive to a read receipt if a message is critical for business or legal reasons. Otherwise, people don’t necessarily like having someone know when they have read an email; they may consider the management of their email correspondence to be a private matter.
